On, September 6, 1979, President Jimmy Carter issued an official proclamation designating the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. Grandparents Day is to celebrate \u201cgrandparents whose values transcend passing fads and pressures, and who possess the wisdom of distilled pain and joy. \u201c Jacob Reingold and Marian McQuade are credited with gathering support for Grandparents Day and getting the resolution passed.
