Better than Roses: Alternative Flowers for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day conjures up images of heart shaped chocolates and roses. But, from time to time, you may want to break from the pack and give your sweetheart something different. For that reason, we’ve created a list of some of the most beautiful blooms that could be used in your Valentine’s Day flower arrangement.

Tulips

One of our Valentine’s Day flower arrangements, using all tulips.

Tulips come in a variety of colors, including yellow and orange, white, purples and violet, and red and pink. These gorgeous flowers are a little more playful than roses but equally as romantic.

Tulips are also bold enough to make a beautiful arrangement without any additional flowers. Their long stems and leaves are perfect for tall glass vases. Tulips also tend to have a longer lifespan than roses, meaning they will make your sweetheart smile for an extra few days.

A tulip is also the 11th anniversary flower, so keep that in mind if this is your 11th Valentine’s Day together!

Lilies

Bright and intricate, lilies make a fantastic addition to any Valentine’s Day bouquet. Lilies are versatile enough to be combined with a variety of flowers to add extra edges to a soft arrangement.

We carry a variety of lilies, the most popular being the Peruvian lily for its intricate color pattern and rounder petals. White asiatic lilies can be beautifully paired with roses, giving a contemporary touch to a classic arrangement.

Iris

Purple Iris.

The deep color, intricate bloom pattern, and slender frame of the iris make it the perfect accent flower for a Valentine’s Day arrangement. We love adding deep purple irises to light arrangements, such as light pink roses. Their long stems also make them fantastic for tall arrangements.

The best part about irises is that they can easily be utilized in a more contemporary fashion or can be be used to add a splash of color and texture to a traditional arrangement. No matter what look you want, irises are a fresh and creative addition to any Valentine’s Day arrangement.

Lavender

Not only is lavender a gorgeous bloom, but it also gives off a delicious fragrance. Their tall, yet petite and leafy blooms make them perfect accent pieces. Moreover, they will make your sweetheart smile the second she smells them! We carry a wide variety of fresh and dried lavender to use in many of our arrangements.
