Administrative Professionals day is celebrated to commemorate secretaries, receptionists, and workers who are vital to providing administrative support in an office.

The National Secretaries Association was formed during World War ll, when there was a need for administrative professionals and increased support for people already working in the field. The name of the association underwent various name changes, and, in 1981, was given the most current name, the Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP).
In 1952, National Secretaries Week was formed, and the first Wednesday of that week was named National Secretaries Day. As job titles and responsibilities changed, the IAAP decided to rename the day to “Administrative Professionals Week and Administrative Professionals Day.”
